Remember when you were little and occasionally you would come across those side-by-side photos that would read, "Spot the seven differences between these photos," below them? And for the next three minutes, you would find yourself holding that little picture game inches away from your nose avidly comparing the two?
Oh my gosh, you guys. That was my childhood.
I love me a good comparison-photo-sesh. And now that we are all adults here, why not apply the same fun and fascination to the world of weddings, shall we?
Okay. So personally, I am a very visual person. I can't tell you how many times in my life I try and try to communicate with someone what I have pictured in my mind, or what exactly I am trying to say, and fail without the use of visuals. Pictures are my friend, and for very good reason!
Now, I'm sure you noticed that this blog post included, "Part I," in its title. Meaning...through the use of words formed into very strong and logical arguments, there will be a follow up post to this one about why hiring a wedding photographer is extremely necessary. However, today is about me expressing that WHY to you via visuals.
Before we get officially started (aren't you getting excited??), a little about these images. Earlier this Spring, I had the honor of working alongside Audrey Norman on a bridal shoot here in Seattle. She shoots using film, and her work is ABSOLUTELY stunning. Literally. So. Stunning. Whenever we work together, I try my best to take good photos (ha) of the setup, the couple, the venue...but oh my gosh. Every time I look back at them, my heart gets all sunken. As much as I try to get the best angle and lighting, my photos simply look like sh**.
They never seem to do the pretty details (that I spent so much time on) justice.
They never seem to bring out the warm and fuzzy feelings that I was feeling in the moment.
They never seem to look good...at all.
Friends, I really do hope that you never have to experience those three feelings when it comes to looking through photos of your wedding day. I genuinely wish that you feel stomach butterflies, the corners of your mouth turning up unintentionally, and thankfulness that you made the decision to go with your dream wedding photographer over your old college roommate who did photography as an elective in middle school.
Below, you will see why professional wedding photographers such as Audrey are indeed deemed "professional." Hopefully, seeing my amateur iPhone photos next to Audrey's gorgeous images will be enough to make you understand why I always recommend hiring a professional to capture your wedding day. (As a reminder, these iPhone photos were me literally trying my ultimate best to get the prettiest shots...please keep that in mind. #noshame)
